Neurologic Equine Herpesvirus in Maine

The Maine Department of Agriculture has confirmed one case of neurologic equine herpesvirus in Kennebec County. 

The 20-year-old Quarter Horse mare had onset of clinical signs on June 18 that included fever, peripheral edema and progressive neurologic signs. The mare was confirmed on June 29 and has been euthanized.

An official quarantine has been placed at the facility and twice-daily temperature checks have been implemented. Additional trace-outs are ongoing.
