A horse at a training facility in Howard County, Maryland, was euthanized due to neurologic herpesvirus (also called equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy or EHM). The Equine Disease Communication Center reported the case on June 25.
The training facility is under a hold order and the Maryland Department of Ag and Animal Health is closely monitoring the situation.
The report stated that none of the other 27 horses at the facility are showing clinical signs of neurologic herpesvirus at this time.
