The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that a premises that was reported in April as having strangles has additional cases. The premises, located in Oakland County, has two new confirmed cases and 10 horses exposed. One of the new cases is a 10-year-old grade mare that had onset of clinical signs on May 6 that included depression, coughing and nasal discharge. That mare is recovering.
In April, six horses exhibited clinical signs consistent with strangles. Two of the six were tested and confirmed positive. One of the horses that tested positive in April is sick with strangles.
The premises is under a voluntary quarantine.
