Additional Strangles Premises Confirmed in Washington

A mare that had traveled to a now-quarantined strangles facility has tested positive for strangles in Spokane County, Washington.

The Equine Disease Communication Center reported one confirmed cases of equine strangles in Spokane County, Washington. The 2-year-old Quarter Horse filly had onset of clinical signs on March 5 that included fever, mild serous nasal discharge and moderate appetite suppression. She was confirmed with strangles on March 11.

This filly had traveled to another facility that is now under voluntary quarantine for strangles. (Editor’s note: The only other premises with reported strangles in Washington this year was in King county, and that article can be found here.) 

There are 16 exposed horses on this mare’s premises.
