The Washington State Department of Agriculture has confirmed 2 cases of equine influenza. A 12-year-old mixed breed mare had onset of clinical signs on November 18 that included coughing, fever and a snotty nose. The unvaccinated mare was confirmed with influenza on November 21 and is recovering.
A sucking mixed breed foal had onset of clinical signs and conformation on the same dates. The unvaccinated foal is recovering.
The attending veterinarian is caring for other horses in the barn and a self-quarantine is in place. There are 28 other horses at the facility, which are vaccinated and showing no signs of illness.
