The Connecticut Department of Agriculture reported a case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Fairfield county. The 12-year-old draft cross horse had onset of clinical signs on August 3 that included lethargy, muscle fasciculations, poor appetite, profuse sweating and rapid heart rate. The horse was vaccinated in May 2019, and it is alive and recovering at a referral center for specialized medical treatment.

EEE in New London County
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture also reported a confirmed case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in New London County. The yearling Quarter Horse had onset of clinical signs on August 5 that included high fever, stumbling and circling. The horse is now deceased.
The yearling had no documented history of EEE or WNV vaccinations.
