The Nevada State Veterinarian on April 10, 2019, confirmed a positive case of equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in Clark County.
The 7-year-old Quarter Horse mare had clinical neurologic signs, but is responding to treatment. She was reported to be under-vaccinated.
The facility where the mare is located has a total of 10 horses that have been placed under quarantine.
Indirect exposure to junior high and collegiate rodeo horses occurred. Participants in those events are encouraged to closely monitor their horses for signs of disease and to contact their veterinarians immediately if disease is suspected. Traveling to competitions should be done after consultation with veterinarians, and strict biosecurity protocols should be in place at all events.
