The Kentucky State Veterinarian’s office has reported that the state’s 17th case of equine West Nile virus (WNV) has been confirmed. Testing was conducted by Equine Diagnostic Solutions in Lexington.
This case of WNV was confirmed in a 7-year-old Percheron gelding in Logan County, Kentucky. The gelding started showing clinical signs of rear limb ataxia and muscle fasciculations on November 7. On November 14 the gelding was reported by the attending veterinarian to be improving with a favorable prognosis for recovery. There was no history of WNV vaccination.
