The Iowa State Veterinarian has confirmed a case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Howard County. An unvaccinated, mixed-breed yearling filly showed onset of clinical signs on August 10, 2018. The signs included hind end weakness, ataxia and fever. WNV was confirmed at the USDA National Veterinary Services Laboratory. The status of the horse is unknown.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture confirmed the first 2018 case of West Nile virus in the state for 2018. The index case was diagnosed by Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory on August 15, 2018.
