The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported that following an EHM case confirmed at New Bolton Center last week, eight trace-forward premises (equine locations where horses that might have been exposed at New Bolton returned to before the EHM case was confirmed) and one trace-back premise have been placed under quarantine.

Two barns at New Bolton Center are currently under quarantine; the remainder of the facility is not under formal quarantine following a thorough risk assessment.

At New Bolton and the other quarantined premises in Pennsylvania, monitoring of horses with testing is being implemented in addition to biosecurity precautions.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
