The Washington State Department of Agriculture has three positive horses confirmed for pigeon fever near the towns of Duvall and Carnation in King County. The three horses are a 15-year-old Paint gelding, a 14-year-old Halflinger cross gelding, and a 25-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse mare.
The horses are under the direct supervision of a veterinarian where biosecurity and treatment measures are being managed at this time. The horses are under a voluntary hold order.
The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
