The Canadian Animal Health Surveillance System confirmed two cases of neurologic equine herpesvirus (also known as equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy or EHM) in the Sant-Lazare region of Quebec.

Cases of the neurologic form of equine herpesvirus type 1 have been reported in a stable in the Saint-Lazare region of Montérégie.

Two horses developed neurological signs. One of them had severe disease and had to be euthanized, although he was vaccinated against equine herpesvirus.

The recent entry of a new horse into the stable without prior quarantine is one of the identified risk factors responsible for this outbreak. This outbreak does not seem to be linked to cases in the Montérégie and Laurentides regions.

Form more information on EHM read this Fact Sheet.
