The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed a case of equine strangles in Muskegon County, Michigan. Two other horses were exposed.

The confirmed strangles case was in a 10-year-old grade gelding. He had onset of clinical signs on April 4 that included fe er and a submandibular abscess. He was confirmed with equine strangles on April 13.

The unvaccinated gelding is recovering, and there is a voluntary quarantine at the premises.
