An attending veterinarian reported six positive cases of equine strangles at a boarding facility in Hamilton County, Indiana. Twenty-nine other horses were exposed.
The facility is under a voluntary quarantine.
Michigan Strangles Reported
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported a case of equine strangles in Cass County. The 2-year-old Quarter Horse filly had onset of clinical signs on February 18 that included fever, and swollen and draining submandibular lymph nodes. The filly was confirmed with strangles on February 27 and is recovering.
There were no other reported exposed horses.
