The Florida Department of Agriculture confirmed that on April 17, one premises in Nassau County was placed under quarantine for clinical signs and a positive PCR test result for strangles. One of the 13 horses on the property is showing clinical signs at this time. This is the first strangles quarantine for Nassau County and the 23rd in the state of Florida in 2018.
The Florida Department of Agriculture also reported that on April 4, one horse in Hamilton County tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). The unvaccinated 17-year-Welsh Pony began showing clinical signs on April 3 and was humanely euthanized on April 4 due to a poor prognosis.
