Three horses in South Carolina either were euthanized or died due to Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), according to testing results from Clemson Livestock and Poultry Health and the Equine Disease Communication Center.
One horse each in Horry, Florence and Berkeley Counties in South Carolina were confirmed positive for EEE and reported in July 2020. All three horses were unvaccinated.
One was a 9-year-old Quarter Horse mare, one was an 18-year=old Percheron mare and the third was a 4-year-old Andalusian mare.
