The Washington State Department of Agriculture has stated that at this time the EHV-1 neurotropic strain disease outbreak has been confined to Goldcreek Equestrian Center in Woodinville, Washington. The facility remains under quarantine.

Seven horses displaying neurologic signs were euthanized, but no horses have been euthanized since December 23, 2017.

Efforts have focused on equine biosecurity, early detection, early isolation of infected horses and early quarantine to prevent disease spread through the movement of horses, vehicles and people.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
