Craig talked about the Sunrise session that Merck hosted on microchip technology and diseases, including information that there is a new genotype of EHV-1. He also discussed the Ethics breakfast and the Merck-sponsored Storytelling night that was a very successful fundraiser for The Foundation for the Horse that brought in more than $300,000.

Chappell talked about some of the Committee meetings he attended, including the Welfare and Public Policy meeting and the Infectious Disease Committee meeting. He mentioned that Dr. Ernie Martinez gave a model for ethics that can be used by any practice and can be found under the Ethics tab on the AAEP website.

He also gave information on Merck’s sponsorship of vet student scholarships for third-year vet students.

Chappell said a session on Tuesday on Re-Emerging and Emerging Diseases was one not to miss in the virtual platform.

Schneider attended some sessions on a vet’s role in emergency management that was held on Saturday. She highly recommended it whether you are already involved in rescue and emergency management or if you were wondering if you want to be involved in the future.

She also talked about the keynote speaker’s talk on Zap the Gap: Generational Differences Examined. That is something you should not miss!

Schneider said the Sunday session on keeping equine practitioners in practice was vital to the future and health of horses, owners and veterinarians.
