The AVMA PLIT Launched “Cover Your Assets”: An Online Resource for Veterinary Students

The AVMA PLIT launched a new online resource for veterinary students called “Cover Your Assets.” The student module was created to educate students on protecting their reputations and careers with the right insurance coverage.

“The PLIT is proud to sponsor Student Professional Liability coverage as a SAVMA member benefit, and we wanted to create an educational tool for students to better prepare them for the litigious world they may face,” said Dr. Nina Mouledous, AVMA PLIT Trust Veterinarian. “The focus of this module is to show students how to protect their reputations, and ultimately their careers. ‘Cover Your Assets’ is a great resource that really simplifies the otherwise complex topic of insurance, and we are really excited for the students to take advantage of it.”

“Cover Your Assets” is segmented into four brief videos and covers the types of claims and complaints, best practices to avoid complaints and lessons learned. The videos do not have to be watched all at once, the system will keep track of where a viewer left off. Mouledous appears in the video along with Anthony DeVito, JD, a Veterinary License Defense Attorney, to provide their expertise. Following the video, students are prompted to take a quiz and, if successful, will be provided with a certificate of completion. Students now have the option to include their certificate of completion in their Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA) Honors Portfolio starting in the spring semester for 2017. The student module can be accessed at avmaplit.com/cya.

The PLIT encourages all veterinary students to complete the module. The AVMA PLIT is protecting veterinarians and future veterinarians through it all.

For more than 50 years, the AVMA PLIT has been protecting veterinarians through it all. The PLIT’s mission is to provide a valuable AVMA member service that protects the assets and reputations of the participants and enhances the image of the profession. The comprehensive insurance solutions available through the PLIT program are truly unique in the marketplace with unmatched features and benefits as well as an extraordinary structure that includes oversight by a board of Trustees, who are all veterinarians, and the PLIT Trust Veterinarians. The PLIT program is designed by veterinarians, for veterinarians.
