The American Association of Equine Practitioners announced the addition of Contura Vet as an Educational Partner. Contura Vet joins a distinguished group of 10 other organizations and brands dedicated to providing resources and education through the AAEP to equine veterinarians and horse owners to improve the health and welfare of horses.
“The Contura Vet team is proud to continue our support of the equine practitioner by becoming an AAEP Educational Partner,” said Michaela Arcaro, director of U.S. Business for Contura Vet. “Contura Vet is very much aligned with the AAEP’s mission of supporting the growth and development of the equine veterinarian, the equine industry, and the welfare of the horse. We have developed products which make a meaningful difference to the lives of patients across the world, including equine patients. This is the beginning of an exciting partnership, and we anticipate many years of educational collaboration with the AAEP and its members.”
Contura Vet, the animal health division of Contura International in Denmark, was established over 10 years ago with the development of Arthramid® Vet, a 2.5% injectable polyacrylamide (iPAAG) hydrogel used to treat non-infectious causes of joint lameness in animals, including early synovitis through late stages of osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease in horses. The product received licensing approval in Australia and New Zealand in 2019, and it was authorized for use as a medical device by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2020. The Contura Vet USA division opened in 2021 in Franklin, Tennessee.
The company has supported the AAEP and its educational opportunities as both an exhibitor and sponsor in recent years. At the AAEP’s 68th Annual Convention, Nov. 18–22, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas, Contura Vet will sponsor an educational session on the topic of pain management, co-sponsor the Welcome Reception, host a Sunrise Session, and have a large presence in the exhibit hall. Contura Vet also sponsored the inaugural New Practitioners Symposium at the University of Florida in February of 2022, underscoring their commitment to the profession and development of the equine practitioner.
“We look forward to working with the Contura Vet team to advance horse health through continuing education for equine practitioners and horse owners,” said AAEP Executive Director David Foley. “The support of Contura Vet and all of our Educational Partners will be integral to AAEP’s recently announced initiatives directed towards sustainability of the profession.”
In addition to Contura Vet, AAEP’s other Educational Partners are American Regent Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim, Care Credit, Cargill Animal Nutrition, Dechra Veterinary Products, IDEXX, Merck Animal Health, Platinum Performance, Purina and Zoetis.
