An attending veterinarian has reported that two cases of equine influenza have been confirmed in Sonoma County, California, as of January 29.

The first was a 2-year-old Lusitano gelding with onset of clinical signs on January 12. Those signs included cough and nasal discharge. The horse is still alive.

The second was a 10-year-old Warmblood gelding that had onset of clinical signs on January 15. Those signs included cough, nasal discharge and fever. The horse is still alive.

The veterinarian noted that several other horses in the barn with respiratory signs of cough, nasal discharge and fever are being monitored, but they have not been confirmed with equine influenza.
