Equine Strangles Reported in Michigan

One confirmed case of equine strangles and six suspected cases were reported on a property in Ogemaw County, Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed a case of strangles in a 4-year-old Paint mare in Ogemaw County. The mare had onset of clinical signs on February 1 that included swelling in the throat area. The mare is recovering.

Six other horses were suspected of having strangles on the property. A voluntary quarantine is in place.
