Five Dedicated Equine Veterinary Students to be Awarded $5,000 by Merck Animal Health

The AAEP Foundation is pleased to announce the 2019 recipients of the $5,000 Merck Animal Health Scholarships administered by the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation. 

The recipients are:

  • Kalie Beckers, Louisiana State University, class of 2021
  • Kimberly Hildreth, University of Pennsylvania, class of 2021Corey Payne, Texas A&M University, class of 2021
  • Megan Sitzman, Oklahoma State University, class of 2020
  • Haydan Vosburgh, Kansas State University, class of 2020

The Merck Animal Health scholarship recognizes promising veterinary students committed to a career in equine medicine.

“We are incredibly proud to support these five future equine veterinary students through our ongoing partnership with the AAEP and the AAEP Foundation,” said D. Craig Barnett, DVM, Merck Animal Health director of equine technical services. “These students are exceptional leaders and I’m confident that they will help move our mission forward by advancing the science of healthier animals in the years to come.”

The five recipients of the 2019 Merck Animal Health Scholarship will be presented with their awards on December 9, 2019, at the AAEP’s 65th Annual Convention in Denver, Colorado, before the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture.

“We are so thankful for the continued support of Merck Animal Health,” said Dr. Rick Mitchell, AAEP Foundation Advisory Council chairman. “In a time when the veterinary profession is struggling to overcome the challenges of excessive educational debt, Merck Animal Health remains a steadfast industry leader committed to horse welfare, veterinarians and students.”

To be eligible for this program, applicants must be second- or third-year veterinary students dedicated to equine medicine and active within any of the AAEP’s 39 student chapters at colleges of veterinary medicine in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. The scholarships are awarded to students for their academic excellence, leadership in their school and AAEP student chapter, and their long-term goals.
