Henry Schein Animal Health, the U.S. animal health business of Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), today announced that Kim Allen, President, Commercial Division, has been honored by the American Veterinary Distributors Association (AVDA) with its 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. Allen received the award during the opening session of the AVDA Annual Conference earlier this month in Coronado, California.

Allen, who will retire this summer after more than 36 years in the veterinary distribution industry, joined Henry Schein in 2005. Prior to that, she was the president of Burns Veterinary Supply for the Darby Group Companies, and had served in various sales and marketing and senior executive positions during her career. She was the first woman to join the AVDA board of directors, on which she served from 1990 to 2005, during which she was Chairwoman from 2001 to 2004.

“I am honored to receive the AVDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and I thank this wonderful organization for helping distributors navigate the ever-changing animal health landscape,” Allen said. “Throughout much of my career, the AVDA has been an invaluable partner in our industry’s efforts to help veterinary professionals build stronger practices and deliver high quality care to their patients, and I look forward to seeing how we are able to continue moving forward for the benefit of animal health.”

Allen received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Rutgers University. She is an avid horse rider and breeder of Oldenburg horses, and shows them in dressage, eventing, and breed shows. She is also a member of the U.S. Equestrian Federation, U.S. Dressage Federation, and U.S. Eventing Association.

“Kim’s dedication and service to the animal health industry and distribution for more than 36 years is truly remarkable,” said Paula Brown, AVDA Chairwoman. “She was a role model and mentor for me and many other women in the industry. Her support of AVDA as a board member and first woman Chair was groundbreaking and helped to make the association better for all of our members.”

The AVDA was created in 1976 as the national trade organization for businesses engaged in the distribution of animal health products, and its board established the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Ms. Allen is just the eighth person to receive the award since its inception.
