Novus International Releases Seventh Annual Sustainability Report

Today, Novus International, Inc. released its 2014 Sustainability Report, which documents and measures the Company’s comprehensive social, environmental and economic sustainability program.

“Novus is dedicated to developing innovative solutions that allow our customers to do more with less,” commented Jake Piel, Sustainability Manager at Novus International. “We achieved significant accomplishments in 2014; and through engagement with internal stakeholders, industry collaborators and our customers, we have developed a sustainability approach that will maximize our ability to make a difference in the coming years.”

The report follows the Company’s sustainability framework key focus areas, which include: Customer Productivity and Profitability, Supply Chain Efficiency, Human Health and Nutrition, Sustainable Animal Agriculture, and Engaged and Empowered Employees. 2014 highlights include:

  • Novus launched an engagement platform for conducting customer-centric events around the world called Novus Forum. This stage allows customers to come together to learn and share insights and best practices for improving their profitability and efficiency. Over 20 such events were hosted around the world in 2014, bringing together hundreds of customers and industry experts.
  • Novus production facilities reduced both energy and greenhouse gas emission intensity, each by 5 percent.
  • Novus celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its highly effective chelated trace minerals, MINTREX. This anniversary reflected Novus’s leadership position in the chelated trace minerals market and highlights the company’s dedication to sustainable solutions that improve animal welfare and lessen environmental impact.
  • Novus was awarded the American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Company Gold Award for the fourth consecutive year. In all Novus global operations, employee health and wellness initiatives, such as lunch programs and fitness challenges, encourage employees to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The report also updates other areas of progress, including efforts to define methodologies for measuring the positive impact of Novus products on the environment. In 2014, Novus participated in the Specialty Feed Ingredients Sustainability (SFIS) project. The SFIS project brings together companies and associations dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of livestock through innovative specialty feed ingredients. Overall results of the study showed the use of SFIs in animal diets reduces the consumption of basic feed ingredients as compared to not feeding SFIs. This leads to clear reductions of the global warming potential, as well as the eutrophication and acidification potential of livestock production.

The 2014 Novus Sustainability Report was prepared according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G-4 standards. GRI is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization that seeks to increase the level of business transparency by promoting sustainability reporting among companies throughout the world. The main tool for assimilating sustainability reporting is the GRI reporting framework which contains detailed guidelines for reporting on sustainability impacts. It provides a consistent structure that thousands of companies around the world now use to disclose their approach and performance related to sustainability.
