The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) reports that West Nile virus (WNV) has been confirmed in a horse in Kittitas County. The confirmed case is a 15-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, which is currently undergoing treatment.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the horse did not travel outside of Washington state and was not vaccinated for West Nile virus.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
