Nyquist, ridden by Mario Gutierrez, clocked in at 2:01.31, racing past Exaggerator and Gun Runner to win the Kentucky Derby – the Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.Amy Figueroa, US Brand Manager at Longines, presented owner, trainer and jockey of Nyquist with watches from The Longines Master Collectionafter an incredible win.
The Longines Master Collection brings together classical elegance and watchmaking expertise. All range of requirements can be satisfied by the choice of displays offered by the collection: chronograph functions, indication of time in all 24 time-zones worldwide, power-reserve indicator, phases of the moon or retrograde functions. The Longines Master Collection cases are available in steel, steel and yellow gold or 18 carat rose gold. Each timepiece is mounted on a steel and yellow gold or a steel bracelet, or on a black or brown alligator strap. The Official watch of the event features a silver “barley-corn” design, a moonphase display, as well as blue steel hands. It is mounted on a brown alligator strap.
To commemorate the historic 2015 Triple Crown series, Longines created a special edition Conquest Classic timepiece. Limited to 180 pieces and exclusive to the U.S. market, this watch features a brown leather strap and brown dial, designed to match American Pharoah’s actual coat color.
This timepiece also features a jockey on his mount on the watch sub-dial along with non-numerical markers, except for the “3″–a nod to the Triple Crown. On the sub-counter, the “12” is marked in yellow, to highlight American Pharoah being the 12th horse to win the Triple Crown title. The back of each watch is numbered and is marked with the Triple Crown logo.The exclusive limited edition watch comes in three different cases – stainless steel, 18K rose gold and two-tone steel and rose gold.
At the Kentucky Derby, Longines timepieces and branded clocks were on display throughout Churchill Downs’ facilities, in which the brand’s logo was prominently featured on the official red carpet, racetrack and in other surrounding areas. Further, a digital Longines Kentucky Derby Countdown Clock was revealed on Churchill Downs’ official event website (www.KentuckyDerby.com) to observe this historic race.
