The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has confirmed a case of EHV-1 at Belmont Park. A 3-year-old male was sent to the Cornell Ruffian Equine Hospital after developing clinical signs including fever and mild respiratory signs. The horse has not shown any neurologic signs and is currently at the Ruffian Center for monitoring.

Barn 44 at Belmont Park, where the horse was originally housed prior to being transported, has been placed under a precautionary quarantine.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
