Two Dozen Equine Influenza Cases Reported in Georgia

24 horses have been reported as affected with equine influenza in Bibb County, Georgia, with 57 horses exposed.

Laboratory results have confirmed several cases of equine Influenza in Bibb County, Georgia. The attending veterinarian reported that clinical signs, including fever up to 104 degrees F, mucopurulent nasal discharge, cough and lethargy were observed on January 16, 2018, in horses at a private facility. 

At this time, 24 horses have been reported as affected with 57 horses exposed.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
