A new, fast-acting injectable solution for equine sedation and premedication has been launched in the UK by Dechra Veterinary Products.

Rominervin® contains 10 mg/ml romifidine hydrochloride that is equivalent to 8.76 mg romifidine.

It can be used as a sedative to facilitate handling, examination, minor surgical interventions and minor procedures or as a premedication prior to administration of injectable or inhalation anesthetics. Rominervin can also be used in combination with synthetic opiates, such as butorphanol, to provide deeper sedation or analgesia.

It is the latest addition to Dechra’s extensive equine anaesthesia and analgesia range that includes Tranquinervine®, Domidine® and Relaquine®.

Dechra Brand Manager Emma Jennings said: “Rominervin is highly effective as it has a longer duration of action than other alpha-2 agonists. It starts to work within one to two minutes with maximum sedation achieved between five and 10 minutes.

“It is yet another valuable addition in our equine anesthesia and analgesia range that has been designed to provide vets with the therapies they need to operate successfully in day-to-day practice.”

Rominervin, which comes in a 20 ml vial, can be used in conjunction with Dechra’s equine anesthesia and analgesia app that is designed to help veterinary professionals choose optimal anesthetic protocols and calculate anesthetic drug doses and administration rates quickly and easily.
