Strangles in Two Florida Counties

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has confirmed strangles at premises in St. Lucie and Leon Counties.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has confirmed strangles at premises in St. Lucie and Leon Counties. Both premises are under official quarantine. 

In St. Lucie County, a 10-year-old Percheron gelding was confirmed with strangles. He had onset of clinical signs on February 22. Four horses on the property were exposed.

In Leon County, two horses were confirmed with strangles on one premises. One was an 8-year-old Haflinger mare that had onset of clinical signs on March 6, which included submandibular abscess rupture.
