Potomac Horse Fever in Tennessee and Massachusetts

Three horses in Tennessee and one in Massachusetts were confirmed with Potomac horse fever in July 2021.

The Equine Disease Communication Center has reported confirmed cases of Potomac horse fever in Tennessee and Massachusetts.

Tennessee

The Tennessee State Veterinarian confirmed that Potomac horse fever was diagnosed at farms in Hawkins, Robertson and Sullivan Counties. There were no quarantines.

Massachusetts

The Massachusetts State Veterinarian’s office confirmed a case of Potomac horse fever at a boarding facility in Norfolk County. The horse had clinical signs of fever, inappetence and lethargy. IT was affected and alive at the time of this report.
