Virginia Horse Euthanized Due to Neurologic Equine Herpesvirus

The State Veterinarian’s Office of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services confirmed that a 21-year-old cross-bred gelding has been euthanized due to neurologic herpesvirus. His clinical signs included ataxia and recumbency.

The infected horse was at a boarding stable in Loudoun County. The boarding stable is under quarantine and no other horses on the farm have had any clinical signs or fevers since the quarantine began on October 24, 2019.
