An attending veterinarian reported through the Equine Disease Communication Center that eight horses had been confirmed with equine influenza in Polk County, Florida. Twenty-five other horses were exposed.

Five of the eight influenza-affected horses had details reported as follows:

A 6-year-old Paso Fino mare first showed clinical signs on June 7 of fever and bilateral nasal discharge. She was confirmed with flu on June 10. The mare had been vaccinated.

A 17-year-old Saddlebred gelding began showing clinical signs on June 13 of fever and lethargy. He was confirmed with flu on June 18. The gelding was vaccinated.

A 2-year-old Paso Fino mare and two yearling Hackney Pony colts showed clinical signs on June 14 of fever and lethargy. All three were confirmed with flu and were vaccinated.
