18 Suspected Equine Strangles Cases in Washington

A premises in King County, Washington, has 18 suspected cases of equine strangles.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture said horses arrived at a premises on April 30 and clinical signs of strangled started on May 2. Strangles was confirmed in five horses on May 9.

Eighteen horses have clinical signs, abscesses or fever.

The property owner stopped movement in and out of the property and began biosecurity measures once strangles was suspected.
