Flu and Respiratory EHV Reported in California

Four equine influenza cases were reported on one property and three EHV respiratory cases were reported on another facility.

Attending veterinarians notified the Equine Disease Communication Center about two different equine respiratory diseases in Stanislaus County.

One report was for equine influenza confirmed on April 15 in four horses with eight others exposed. The initial case was in a 2-year-old Quarter Horse filly. Onset of clinical signs was April 12 and included coughing, lethargy and nasal discharge.

Movement restriction was by veterinarian recommendation and the owner is compliant.

The second report was for equine herpesvirus respiratory disease in three horses at a facility. No other information was reported.
