An Albemarle County, Virginia, practitioner reported one horse euthanized and three others undergoing treatment for Potomac horse fever.An attending veterinarian has confirmed four cases of Potomac horse fever at an equine clinic in Albemarle, Virginia. The cases include Quarter Horses and Miniature Horses ranging in ages from 10-14. The disease was confirmed on fecal and blood PCR.
Then onset of clinical signs was reported on July 23, 2018, which include fever, lethargy, diarrhea and inappetence. One horse was euthanized, the remaining three cases are receiving treatment. The horses are reported as having been vaccinated.
