The quarantine for EHV-1 at and biosecurity on the affected barn at Turfway Park was raised to Alert Status by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Alert Status restricts entry only to persons having essential tasks using proper biosecurity measures. Security personnel are assigned to supervise and record all movement of personnel. No movement of horses into or out of the quarantined barn is permitted without approval by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
The twenty-five horses in the quarantined barn are permitted to exercise at established times when no other horses are on the grounds.
The quarantine will be released after a minimum of 14 days post-exposure with no evidence of illness and all horse test negative for EHV-1 on nasal swab and blood.
In addition to the quarantined horses, two other horse that had potential exposure were traced to two additional premises, which are being monitored and exposure monitored.
Currently live racing is being conducted at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky. There are currently no horses on the backside that have tested positive for EHV. The index case EHV neurologic horse at Turfway Park that tested positive was euthanized on February 2.
