41st Florida Strangles Case in 2017

This is the 10th case of strangles reported in Marion County and the 41st for the state of Florida in 2017.

On December 22, 2017, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services confirmed strangles in a horse in Marion County. The premises was placed under quarantine. 

The index case had clinical signs on December 17, 2017, and was confirmed positive by culture. The six other horses on the premises are free of clinical signs at this time. 

This is the 10th case of strangles reported in Marion County and the 41st for the state of Florida in 2017.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) works to protect horses and the horse industry from the threat of infectious diseases in North America. The communication system is designed to seek and report real time information about disease outbreaks similar to how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) alerts the human population about diseases in people.
