Equine Strangles in Lapeer County, Michigan

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed equine strangles in a weanling Spotted Draft Horse colt on a property in Lapeer County. The colt had onset of clinical signs on April 5 that included abscessed submandibular lymph nodes, fever and nasal discharge. He was confirmed with equine strangles on April 14. The colt is recovering.

There were seven other horses exposed to equine strangles on the property.
