Rabies Confirmed in a Colorado Mule

A mule residing in Eagle County, Colorado, was confirmed with bat variant rabies.

The Colorado Departments of Agriculture and Public Health and Environment confirmed that a mule residing in Eagle County tested positive for bat variant rabies.

This was the first case of rabies in domestic livestock in Colorado in 2021 and the first reported case of rabies in an equid in Colorado since 2013.
