The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) reported 13 positive equine infectious anemia (EIA) cases in Quarter Horses.
TAHC officials confirmed EIA in one Quarter Horse on a Parker County premises, seven Quarter Horses on a Crane County premises, and five Quarter Horses on a Johnson County premises in June.
The premises have all been quarantined and will not be released until TAHC’s requirements are met. TAHC staff are working closely with the owners and local veterinarians to monitor potentially exposed horses and implement biosecurity measures.
All of the EIA-positive horses were euthanized.
