Three EEE Deaths in Wisconsin Horses

Wisconsin has three new confirmed cases of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) that resulted in death, according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Production.

Wisconsin has three new confirmed cases of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) that resulted in death, according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Production.

One case was a 17-year-old Belgian mare from Juneau County, which died. The second was an 8-year-old Standardbred mare from Chippewa County, which died. The third case was an 8-year-old pony gelding from Monroe County, which was euthanized. 

According to the state, all horses were unvaccinated, developed neurologic signs, and became unable to rise. No quarantines were issued.
