Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health announced the recipients of the 2024 Advancement in Equine Research Awards during the 70th annual American Association of Equine Practitioners Convention, held in Orlando, Florida, from Dec. 7-11. The recipients were chosen based on their research proposals which included subject matter focused on equine infectious disease.
Recipients are the following:
- Serena Ceriotti DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM-LA, Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn, Alabama
- Nicola Pusterla DVM, PhD, DACVIM, AVDC-Equine, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis, California
- Smriti Shringi B.V.Sc & A.H., DVM, M.V.Sc., MS, PhD, School of Veterinary Medicine, Texas Tech University, Amarillo, Texas
- Hossam Elsayed BVSc/DVM (VD and Hons), MVSc, PhD, PhD, Diplomate ACT, Gluck Equine Research Center, University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky

Those eligible to submit proposals were veterinarians, diagnosticians, and public and private researchers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Boehringer Advancement in Equine Research Awards program was launched in 2011 to support veterinary research that results in practical applications for insights into important equine infectious and non-infectious diseases. Nearly $900,000 has been awarded to date for emerging science in equine research.
