Boehringer Ingelheim Launches Updated IDPPID.com Website

Veterinarians in search of information about pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) can get details about the disorder, learn more about diagnosing and managing PPID and get access to the PPID testing program via the updated IDPPID.com website.

PPID is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that impacts a horse’s quality of life. Formerly known as equine Cushing’s disease, early clinical signs of PPID can include, but are not limited to, changes in attitude, lethargy, recurrent infections, delayed shedding, loss of muscle mass and laminitis.

In 2013, Boehringer Ingelheim launched a testing program to help equine veterinarians and horse owners better understand and recognize the clinical signs as well as manage the disease. Since its inception, more than 40,000 horses have been tested through the program, which is offered exclusively through veterinarians. The program is offered bi-annually, in the spring and fall.

To access the testing program veterinarians can visit the site, create an account and enroll horses.

Besides access to the spring testing program, which runs from March 16 – June 21, veterinarians and horse owners can access information on IDPPID.com including but not limited to:

  • General information about PPID
  • Clinical signs of PPID
  • Updates on the diagnosis and management of PPID
  • Why and how to test for PPID
  • PPID Research
  • Forage testing resources
