Statement on the Death of Timothy T. Capps, Director of the UofL’s Equine Industry Program

Timothy T. Capps, director of the Equine Industry Program in the University of Louisville College of Business, died April 22, 2017, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.

Timothy T. Capps, director of the Equine Industry Program in the University of Louisville College of Business, died April 22, 2017, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. He was 71 and had been hospitalized since mid-February following a stroke.

“Tim loved to teach and his name was synonymous with the horse industry,” said Todd Mooradian, dean of the College of Business. “We will miss his dedication to our equine program and our students, as well as his enthusiasm for an industry that is one of the foundations of the Kentucky economy.”

Tim had been director of the equine program since June 2011, and he also taught courses in equine marketing, management, and communications and industry issues. He also taught a direct training program for racing industry officials and was a horse industry consultant on marketing, communications, business management, gaming and legislative and regulatory issues.

Prior to coming to UofL, Tim was executive vice president of the Maryland Jockey Club; executive vice president of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association/Maryland Million; vice president of Matchmaker Racing Services; editor and publisher of Thoroughbred Record Magazine; and director of operations for The Jockey Club.

Tim had also worked as a stock broker and an investment counselor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had earned the rank of captain.

Tim is survived by his wife, Nancy, and a daughter, Meredith, of Washington, D.C.
