EEE Diagnosed in Connecticut and Michigan

Michigan and Connecticut had horses that were euthanized due to EEE in September 2019.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported the following information on Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) cases in Michigan and Connecticut.

Michigan

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that a 3-year-old Paint gelding in Livingston County had onset of clinical signs on September 23 that included fever, seizures, eye twitching, and recumbency. The gelding was confirmed on September 27 and was euthanized. He was unvaccinated.

Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture reported that a 7-year-old Miniature Horse mare in New London County Lihad onset of clinical signs on September 13 that included circling, leaning, shaking and progressively declining health. The mare was confirmed on September 20 and was euthanized. She was undervaccinated.
