Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) was confirmed in Marion County, South Carolina, as reported by the Clemson Livestock Poultry Health. This was the first case of EEE in South Carolina. 

Subsequent cases were confirmed in Horry and Edgefield Counties.

The confirmed case was in a yearling Tennessee Walking horse colt that was euthanized. The colt had not been vaccinated.
