Eight EEE-Positive Horses in Massachusetts

Eight horses in Massachusetts were confirmed positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in August.

Eight horses were confirmed positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in four different Massachusetts counties in August. This is according to the state’s Health and Human Services department.

Worcester County reported four EEE-positive horses. One horse each was located near Mendon (August 16), Uxbridge (August 22), Douglas (August 23) and Brookfield (August 27).

Hampsire County reported one positive EEE horse near Granby (August 8).

Essex County reported one positive EEE horse near Methuen (August 22).

Middlesex County reported one positive EEE horse near Holliston (August 23).

 An EEE-positive goat was confirmed in Bristol County near Norton (August 11).

No other information was provided on the cases.
