On April 10, 2019, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed one case of strangles in Bay County.

The 10-year-old Quarter Horse gelding had onset of clinical signs that included fever, nasal discharge and reluctance to move head on April 1. He was confirmed with strangles on April 5. The gelding is recovering.
